While I was happy that my grandfather was able to attend the Veterans Breakfast, I was sad to learn he got upset. He seemed to do better after a nice nap.

Stopped in again to see how Grandpa was feeling and he wasn't looking his usual happy self. He kept telling me something was wrong, he couldn't remember anything. I put him in his recliner and covered him with his blanket. He promptly fell asleep. After I ran some more errands, I checked back in on him. Even more confused then before. He looked straight at me and asked who I was, he said he didn't remember me at all. :(
Hoping and praying that he will be better after a good night sleep.

Been a rough couple days for Grandpa. He had some sort of seizure episode followed by feeling lethargic and sometimes agitated.
I stayed with him most of the day while he slept in his bed.
I remembered a funny story that happened a few years ago when he had to be hospitalized.
I volunteered to spend the night there in the hospital with him. Since he has dementia, we didn't want him to be scared in the middle of the night. For several hours he would ask me how old he was or what was wrong with him back to how old was he. LOL I thought he would never go to sleep. Finally he was quiet for about five minutes when he leaned over and asked me.
"So what do they have you here for"? He must have thought we were both in jail together.

Popped in quick to visit Grandpa today. I brought with my 2 year old grandson. Grandpa can no longer understand that he has great and great great children. We've come to understand that Grandpa does not remember that he is old. He thinks he is anywhere between the ages of 9 and 50. He does still most of the time recognize family.
Once the aides found him (in someone else's bed) he was tickled to see his great great grandson. He looked at him and told him "I love you".

I had a nice little visit with Grandpa today. I brought some of his old pictures to look through with him. He really enjoyed them and could still name a few people in them. Here are a few that really brought a smile to his face.
He seems to be sleeping more.... after every meal and in bed by six. I rush home from work so I can get him ready for bed.

Halloween Party 2015
My grandfather is 94 years old. He is a World War II Navy Veteran who has dementia. He was placed in a beautiful Assisted Living Facility near to my house. While I do not have legal responsibility for him, I DO have moral responsibility for him.
He was a wonderful grandfather to me all my life and I enjoy seeing him often and documenting the happy moments in his life.
We are very thankful for the staff at his facility for the loving care he receives there.
Yesterday, they dressed him up for a Halloween trick or treating. He was originally dressed as John Wayne, but also looked like Clint Eastwood or Woody! I got there in time to see him passing out candy to the children which he really enjoyed.
